THE COMMUNITY

Crime Victims for a Just Society acknowledges the potential of reform movements such as community policing, restorative justice and Restorative Community Justice movement. All share a stated commitment to forging new partnerships with the community, with the goal of promoting public safety and improving the overall quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Yet the partnerships risk being unequal unless communities are educated about their role in collaborative problem-solving initiatives. It can also be difficult for people to know how to assess the peformance of police, prosecutors and courts. In many cases, it is hard for outsiders to know what questions to ask and how to evaluate the answers.

Crime Victims for a Just Society wants communities to become full-fledged partners in this new approaches. Please read executive director Bonnie Bucqueroux' article on Restorative Community Justice. Check back often for additional articles and information on this important topic.
